Hobie Fishing Series 15 Rd 2 St Georges Basin, NSW

The  second round of the Atomic Season 15 was held at St Georges Basin, the home waterway of Hobie, in New South Wales (NSW). This location is well-known for being one of the most challenging spots in the tournament, which was validated during this round. While some anglers found it tough, those who cracked the bite pattern reaped rewards with a Livewell full of bream, showcasing their skill and determination under challenging conditions. After such an amazing opening round at Bemm River, entries to Round 2 begun slowly, then in the last week a flurry of entries got us to 92 anglers.

The weather was a significant factor throughout the event. On the pre-fishing day, it was extremely hot and humid, with temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees and humidity at 93%. This made it difficult for the participants to locate fish for the weekend competition. A thunderstorm in the early afternoon added to the challenging conditions.

On the first day of the competition, the fishing area was reduced by half due to high winds. Despite the overcast and cooler day, the weather brought with it winds of 20-25km per hour and gusts up to 45+ km. Those who braved the waves in the main basin found their efforts rewarded with a spot on the leader table.

The second day was a stark contrast, with a beautiful sunrise, no wind, and warm conditions. This was challenging as the Basin usually has better fishing with some wind. NSW angler Jason Reid made an impressive return to the Hobie Fishing series after a long break, clinching the top spot with a catch weighing 6/4.23kg. Tyson Hayes from Queensland came in second with 6/4.11kg and Grant Oliver, the renowned boat angler, secured third place with 6/3.83kg.

For their exceptional performance, the top four anglers – Jason Reid, Tyson Hayes, Grant Oliver, and Mitchell Maddison have earned their spots in the Australian Championship, November, Camden Haven, NSW.

Huge shout out the the team at Frogleys Offshore for all their support with the event plus the generous offer of free line and 50% discount on apparel to all the competitors. We would also like to thank Shells Mobile Cafe for fantastic service arriving at 4.30am every morning to provide coffee and breakfast to the competitors.
