Shane Owen takes out the Mandurah round of the 2014 Hobie® Kayak Bream Series – Presented By Daiwa.

Appalling weather during the week leading up to comp day was not encouraging (though some were of the opinion that it would stir the fish up) combined with a new location being the Mandurah Town canal systems and the challenge was well and truly laid down. Still, close to 40 hardy kayak anglers fronted the starter’s gun and set off in overcast, chilly and windy conditions. A few patches of sunshine managed to break through during the day and that was about the only positive aspect for most of the field. Only two competitors managed full bags for the day with a total of seventeen fish being weighed in. The talented and consistent performer Shane Owens took out first place followed closely by rising star Joe Franco. Honourable mention to Mitch Vane who landed an absolute cracker of a fish (1.37kg) that gave him 3rd place and the Big Bream award. John Sorrell took out 4th place and reported that he had a blast of a day eventually pulling his fish from within a school of Mulloway – landing around seventeen mulloway kept him so fully occupied he nearly forgot he was in a bream competition! Tough conditions but strangely most enjoyed their day – I guess it makes you appreciate the not so terrible days!http://www.breammaster.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=96
