Kurnell in winter...Brrrrrr

Kurnell in winter...Brrrrrr

7 degrees! Oh man, it's cold. I know you Canberra-ites and Mexicans will be scoffing at such warm temperatures but for me it's bloody chilly!

1st I tried for some tailor or a lost kingfish at the HWO but even the warm water didn't hold any fish this morning. I downsized to some 3" bass minnows and still drew a blank. Time to head out into deeper water.

I ventured out to the Sticks and changed to a Strikepro Cybervib Blade (Black & Gold). Cast, retreive, nuthin'...cast, retreive, nuthin... and so it goes. Thirty minutes of this when something swims into the lure. Ooh, it's a legal bream. Not comp legal but fisheries legal and at least I'm on the board.

The day is slowly warming (but the water isn't. It's only 12.4 degrees) and there are surprisingly few boats about. I've been alternating between SP's and the blades but the blade is the only thing that has had a few hits. Slow hops and a 5 second pause is all I'm doing. I think the fish are pretty lethargic in this cold water.

I'm getting ready to head in when the lure is smacked with gusto and this is obviously a better fish. Some nice determined runs from this guy and when he comes up it's a cracker bream. 33.5 fork length and nice and fat. A couple of these in a comp would be good, that's for sure.

After the photos, I slipped them back into the chilly water (you b4stard they said :D ), hoping the big guy will visit me again during the next tournament. Bring on October/November I say.

Thats a great reward for making the effort! You've gotta be keen to head out on these cold winter mornings.
But hey, the fish are still there looking for things to eat!
Nice work Cid - look forward to catching up soon....
